Frequently Asked Questions For Why You Should Test For Radon?
What is Radon?
Radon is an odorless, tasteless, invisible and radioactive gas- a natural by-product of decaying uranium. In outdoor air, radon is diluted to such low concentrations that it is usually nothing to worry about. However, once inside an enclosed space such as a home, radon can accumulate and be extremely deadly. It is so dangerous that next to smoking, radon was the second leading contributor to lung cancer according to the EPA.
How does Radon get into my home?
Radon can move through small spaces in the soil and rocks on which a house is built. It can enter a home through dirt floors, cracks in concrete, joints, or through drains, sumps, and water wells.
Who performs the test?
Holmes Sweet Home Inspections is an association with Indoor Environment led by John Niebauer. John is a registered engineer and a licensed radon tester. John has flexible scheduling and is available when a home inspection or just a radon test is needed. Once the test is completed, he provides Holmes Sweet Home Inspections with a report that will be given to our clients. Contact Kristina at Holmes Sweet Home Inspections for an appointment at (513) 600- 2593.
What do I do if radon levels are too high?
Along with your specific test results, you will receive information on how to conduct follow up tests to protect yourself in the future. Often the home owner can correct the problem with sealants or other products at a relatively low cost.
The first step is knowing if there is a problem to fix.
